PSEFI SKILLS became certified as a Trainers Methodology I (TM1) training provider. TM1 is a certification program regulated by TESDA to enable qualified individuals to conduct training and assessment on various trades or qualifications. At this time, PSEFI was the only Techvoc school in Cebu certified by TESDA as a TM1 training provider.
PSEFI SKILLS launched the Hospitality Training Center. SKILLS opened two new programs under the Hospitality training center namely Housekeeping NC II and Household Services NC II. Both programs address the growing demand for skilled workers in the tourism industry.
PSEFI SKILLS trainee, Myrna Pitaluna, won the TESDA Batang Idol Award. This award is given to an individual who has attained skills excellence and success at a young age. Myrna is a trainer and assessor of various construction qualifications. She currently holds 11 NCs and is a supervisor of PSC’s Manufacturing Department.
PSC won the TESDA Kabalikat Award – Industry Partner Category. TESDA’s Kabalikat Award recognizes partners that promote and help enhance Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET). PSC’s holistic approach from training to eventual placement has contributed to the socio-economic development of the various communities in the region.
PSEFI SKILLS trainee, Richard Navales, won the Galing Mason Award while representing Region VII in the national competition held in Manila. The Galing Mason Awards is the recognition component of Holcim Philippines flagship corporate social responsibility initiative, the Galing Mason Program. Established in 2004, the program aims to upgrade the status of masons and recognize them for their essential role in helping build structures for development.
PSEFI SKILLS joined the Coalition for Better Education (CBE). CBE was composed of various education stakeholders from the academe, students, parents, government, non-government, and business organizations.
PSEFI SKILLS responded to Bangon Bohol, the relief and recovery operations following the catastrophic Bohol earthquake. This was immediately followed by the Rebuilding Homes, Rebuilding Lives program which helped families in northern Cebu rebuild their homes lost to Super Typhoon Yolanda. In 2015, PSEFI also responded to typhoon-affected families in Ronda, Cebu by donating housing materials.
PSEFI SKILLS initiated employee-led fundraising activities such as Play It Forward and Rummage Sale.
SKILLS launched its pool of Skills Workers which provides various posting or on-call services to PGB affiliates. Under this initiative, trained men and women were given income opportunities.
PSEFI SKILLS received the NGO-PO Accreditation by the Local Government of Cebu Province. This was in line with the 1991 Local Government Code, which aims to promote participation by and partnerships with private and community-based organizations. NGOs and POs are expected to play an active part in the selection and fielding of sectoral representatives to local sanggunians from labor (industrial or agricultural), women and one representative from either the urban poor, indigenous peoples or the disabled.
PSEFI SKILLS engaged in a partnership with the Cebu Contractors Association (CCA) and Association of Carriers and Equipment Lessors (ACEL). The partnership aimed to provide on-the-job training and employment opportunities of SKILLS trainees in CCA and ACEL member companies or contractors.
PSEFI SKILLS entered into a partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). The partnership and collaboration offers services to help in poverty alleviation and for complementing the efforts of DSWD under its Poverty Reduction Program namely, KALAHI-CIDSS, Sustainable Livelihood Program and Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program.
In partnership with Gualandi Mission for the Deaf-Cebu and LINK Center for the Deaf-Manila, PSEFI SKILLS offered Housekeeping NC II training to the deaf. This is notable for being the first of its kind both in the Cebu province and the entire Philippines. The partnership aimed to empower the deaf through skills and values training and employment opportunities.
PSEFI SKILLS, together with the Cebu Chamber Commerce and Industry (CCCI), Cebu Contractors Association (CCA), and AFOS Foundation for Entrepreneurial Development Cooperation, piloted the K to 12 Plus Program for the construction sector. This was in line with the ongoing reforms in the country’s basic education. Under the program, students under the Alternative Learning System (ALS) were exposed to actual workplace disciplines and practices. By 2017, the program produced the first batch of senior high school graduates with industry-certified construction skills.
PSEFI SKILLS acquired Registration Certificate and License to Operate as a Social Welfare and Development Agency (SWDA) authorizing the agency to implement welfare services for the youth, women, families, and communities.
PSEFI SKILLS was granted a Provisional Permit from the Department of Education (DepEd). This provisional permit will allow PSEFI, through SKILLS, to operate a Senior High School Program for Technical-Vocational Livelihood Track and Industrial Arts and Home Economic strands. With SKILLS, a technical vocational institute, PSEFI envisions to produce productive and responsible citizens equipped with the essential competencies and skills for life-long learning and employment.
PSEFI SKILLS became a member of the League of Corporate Foundations. LCF is a network of over 90 operating and grant-making corporate foundations and corporations that promote and enhance the strategic practice of Corporate Social Responsibility among its members and the larger business community, towards sustained national development. One of the immediate results of PSEFI’s involvement in the LCF network was the granting of the Netsuite Software Grant. This is a cloud-based application that will manage the organization’s finances, donor relationships, and social enterprise.
PSEFI SKILLS likewise became a member of the Association of Foundations (AF). Established in 1972, AF is the country’s largest network of NGOs and foundations. It envisions to be a community of reputable foundations working together and engaging stakeholders for equitable, inclusive, and sustainable development.
PSEFI SKILLS assisted in the establishment of the Primary Builders and Skills Multipurpose Cooperative. Today, PBSMPC has over 500 members across PGB and its services include loans, savings, and insurance. PBSMPC also recently received its permit from the Cooperative Development Authority to operate labor services.
